RDAs: What Do They Mean and Why Should I Care?

RDA: Recommended Daily Allowance

This number tells us the intake levels of essential nutrients that are needed to meet the nutrient needs of most healthy persons. RDAs are categorized by gender, age, height, and weight (see chart below).

If you’re curious about a nutrient that is not included in the RDA chart, you can turn to our friend Google and search “Recommended Intake for…”

RDAs have not been discovered for all nutrients

**A diverse diet with various food types (especially colorful fruits & veggies!) can help you to meet most of the RDAs; a daily multivitamin can also support nutrient intake.

Anyone with specific questions about their RDA should contact a Registered Dietitian, or you can ask your JTH nutritionist, Lainie.
