Outeating Your Exercise
by Journey to Health Program Director, Becky Anderson
A common occurrence in my weight loss clinics—-A new participant comes into the program super motivated and starts a new exercise routine. In that person’s mind, since they are burning more calories with their exercise, they feel they can then consume more calories. WRONG!
Our bodies have plenty of fat storage to fuel us throughout a day on a reasonable amount of calories. If our goal is to lose weight, we can do that by continuing to track our calories in compared to the calories we are burning. We have to be at a 3500 calorie deficit to lose one pound.
I do recommend to our participants to have something substantial at least a half hour before exercising so you have energy for your workout. I also recommend consuming some quality protein within an hour of completing your work out so your muscles can stay nice and strong.
But please do not feel like you have a free pass to chow down just because you’re exercising more. This will take away all of your hard work and leave you discouraged.
