How do you measure your success?

by Journey to Health Program Director, Becky Anderson

Some people are just not “numbers people.” I am one of those people. I have been in the weight loss industry for over 20 years, and I do not own a scale. I actually hate numbers, and I feel bad for “my people” that get so distraught when the number on the scale defines not only their day, but sometimes their week, month, or year.

Let’s start 2025 off with some positivity and encouragement—if you never reach your goal weight, IT IS OK!!! Let’s look at why the number on the scale should be secondary to other ways you can measure your success:

  1. you’re in a better mood
  2. you have more energy
  3. your joints hurt less
  4. you’re more focused/less brain fog
  5. you feel stronger
  6. your endurance is improving
  7. you’re craving less sugar
  8. your blood work has improved
  9. your clothes fit better
  10. you’re sleeping better
  11. you’re reducing or eliminating meds (with guidance from your physician)
  12. your skin has a glow to it
  13. your mental health is on an upswing

Honestly, I could go on and on and on. My point is that, in this year of improved health, remember that you are more than a number!! Keep plugging along, keep making lifestyle changes that help you achieve your health goals, and be kind to yourself! You deserve it!!
